Resounding YES!!! :) all the plants will ove you for it.Great for earthing up potatoes is soil is a bit on the thin side.
I've heard of people using grass cuttings as mulch, especially around potatoes, but I never have. You've also got to be careful adding it to compost as too much green waste will make the compost slushy and smelly, so if you are adding it make sure you add plenty of brown waste too, and add it in layers, but then you probably knew that anyway.
Ah good. Thanks kids ;)
Yes! Alys Fowler used them in the bottom of her potatoe trench and then again to earth them up (she just dumped cuttings over the shoots instead of using any soil). I think she also used them as a mulch for other veg too. If I can stop OH from putting them in the green bin I'm going to try it myself!
cool amy, thanks for that info :) i missed some of alys's edible garden prog on bbc2 & now it's not on iplayer anymore :( am hoping there will be a dvd of it, or i can watch it online somewhere. she's got a laid-back attitude that i like. the book for the series looks good but i am not sure i will buy it. just bought lots of books again lately. it is almost as bad a habit as buying seeds ;)
